The VERITAS (VIRTUAL ENTERPRISES FOR INTEGRATED INDUSTRIAL SOLUTIONS) project is an EU FP6 Specific Support Action Project whose overall objective is to increase the dynamics of European Industrial Enterprises by transforming them, where appropriate and possible, to more flexible and re-active companies that use the Virtual Enterprise concept in a manageable and effective way. The project has been started on July 2004 and today after 30 months VERITAS has been successfully completed by the prominent efforts of its project partners. An implementation guide is prepared for the initiation of a cooperative network.

An implementation guide is prepared for the initiation of a cooperative network.
Through the VERITAS support, four cooperative networks have been formed in Austria, Belgium and Turkey. Turkish networks are made up of companies from the compressor manufacturing industry and superstructure equipment manufacturing industry.
Where MIB (Machine Manufacturers Association in Turkey) supported the whole process by being partner in the project, TAGES managed the networks established in Turkey: CompressorNET and Superstructure Network starting from their initiation phase until to date, under the subcontract of European Commission as network manager.

CompressorNET
Compressor sector in the world is changing very fast nowadays. Big players by acquiring medium sized manufacturers, entered in their markets with a stronger position and also started to manufacture in China and India so, they decrease their manufacturing costs and increased profits. Big players gained a competitive advantage against small compressor manufacturers by being a global and profitable brand. On the other hand, the R&D and global standardisation capabilities of this big manufacturers, forced small manufacturers’ position in the market. Small compressor manufacturers can not invest on R&D, new product development neither on being a global brand. The only way to make small compressor manufacturers stronger in the market is, to make an efficient cooperation between those manufacturers.
Therefore, CompressorNET has been established in 2005 by 11 Compressor Manufacturers to develop a sub-industry of compressors in Turkey where network members are collaborating on technical knowledge, engineering, manufacturing, servicing and industry experiences.
The vision is enough ambitious and in order to achieve, activities to be performed will have benefits for the network for self-development of the companies as:
- To learn to cooperate
- To develop competencies
- To think globally act both locally and globally
The aim of the network is to provide the best and highest quality compressors with lower production costs for the international markets.
Benefits also for the economy, as small compressors would gain more power by specializing and developing technology and gaining know-how, increase productivity and export capacity.
Network products are:
- Screw compressors
- Piston compressors
- High pressure compressors
CompressorNET is an initiative arose from the VERITAS Project supported by EC FP6.

Superstructure Network
Superstructure” means the rotating upper frame structure of the machine and the operating machinery mounted thereon. Marketing, selling and serving to different sectors and/or working fields (Municipality, Military, Airports, Construction, ..) with different type equipment for different machinery, superstructure manufacturers have similar competencies, buy same or similar components (mostly hydraulic cylinders) and do similar engineering works. Manufacturing costs are almost the same for each (engineering and supplies costs) Some manufacturer can, some can not compete worldwide, for instance, one have a wide network with a revenue 90% from exporting, one more competent but more locally. Under these conditions and options, one of the superstructure manufacturers in Turkey who also has a wide marketing area and network decided to form a network with other superstructure manufacturers in order to bring together each others most powerful sides and act together in order to create new markets internationally. Thus, a ‘Superstructure Network’ is established in Turkey. The network had 2 partners at the beginning; each manufacturing different types of equipment for different type of sectors and working fields. The network has 2 partners, still looking for new partners for increasing the knowledge and competencies within the network.
The vision of the network is to create new markets worldwide by producing special internationally competitive products together.
Objectives:
- Reduced production costs
- Higher quality product with advance technical knowledge and experience
- Fast and increase in production
- Increase in sales and access to new markets
The network, with this vision, might have other partners from different countries with different competencies to increase the power of the network.
Developing a sub-industry would also increase the interaction with European organizations by means of business and technology development.
