Turkish institutions are getting more experience about the project writing for the European Union Framework Programmes and working with European partners. The experience sharing workshop of TUBITAK and Ericsson revealed the successful projects presented for the FP7 ICT 1st Call. Turkish institutions have participated to 171 project consortiums in the 1st Call and in 29 of them Turkish institutions are engaged in the role of project coordination.
TUBITAK and Ericsson organized ‘7th Framework Programme Information and Experience Sharing’ workshop on 26th July, 2007 in Istanbul. The participants of the workshop including the organizations and individuals, who have presented a project proposal for the ICT 1st Call or who are preparing a project proposal to submit for the ICT 2nd call. They shared their experiences on the project preparation process in an interactive platform. Leyla Arsan and Selen Akçalı from TAGES were in the workshop to present the EASIER project, Engaging Regional SMEs within the ICT Sector in EU Research, funded by the European Union under the 6th Framework Programme and they shared their project experiences with the Turkish ICT companies.
In the workshop the representatives of TUBITAK, national contact point of 7th Framework Programme, provided information about the participant organizations to the FP7 ICT 1st Call and the projects that passed the threshold in the project evaluation. According to TUBITAK records, Turkish institutions participated to 171 projects, and the number of projects with a Turkish coordinator is 29. 36% of the Turkish institutions who have participated to a project consortium are universities, 33% are SMEs and 18% are industry.
After the evaluation of the proposals, European Commission informed that 7 projects of Bilkent University, 6 projects of Middle East Technical University, 4 projects of SRDC, 2 projects of Ministry of Health, 2 projects of Siemens and 2 projects of Ford Otosan were over the threshold.
Turkish institutions are gaining experience and expertise in the 7th Framework Programme. When we look at the European countries, we see that German institutions have contributed to 2429 projects, whereas the number of projects with Greek partners is 1134, with Israeli partners is 297. The partners from Norway participated to 191 project proposals and there are 47 institutions fromLuxembourg who have participated to a project consortium.
FP7 ICT 2nd Call with a budget of € 477,000,000 is now open and the deadline to present a proposal for the 2nd Call is 9 October, 2007.
