Third call for ICT is now open for ICT projects from cognitive system, interaction and robotics to the digital libraries and embodied intelligence with its total budget of 265 million euro. Hence, ICT theme of the 7th Framework Programme is a very competitive area in terms of the quality of the funded projects and high number of project proposals submitted. To give the ICT researhers networking opportunities and help them in submitting their proposals, European Commission organizes ICT information days. Intelligent Content and Semantics Information Day was held on 12-13 December 2007 whereas Digital Libraries and Technology-enhanced Learning Information Day was held on 17-18 December 2007 in Luxembourg.
Third call for ICT proposals was published on 4 December 2007 and 7th Framework Programme ICT theme calls for proposals on the following areas:
- Cognitive system, interaction and robotics
- Digital libraries and technology-enhanced learning
- Intelligent content and semantics
- Science of complex systems for socially intelligent ICT
- Embodied intelligence
- ICT forever yours
- International cooperation
- Trans-national co-operation among National Contact Points
Many European researchers have already begun to prepare their project proposal and build their consortiums. In order to help the project submitters or other people who are willing to participate in project consortiums, European Commission organized the ICT Information Days.
Information day on the Digital Libraries and Technology Enhanced Learning helped the participants understand the work programme and facilitated networking for project opportunities and experience sharing. The two day workshop also allowed the participants to present their posters to find partners and talked to the European Commission staffs about their project ideas and received feed-backs.Information Day on Intelligent Content and Semantics hosted more than 350 participants as well as 20 speakers. Besides the informative presentations of the invited speakers and the poster session to present project ideas, the Skills Marketplace provided the participants the chance to present their company expertises.
Turkish ICT companies show an increasing interest in participating to the EU funded projects. There were 13 participants from Turkey, such as Beko, Smart Valley and RTB Educational Solutions, inDigital Libraries and Technology Enhanced Learning Information Day and 14 Turkish participants in Intelligent Content and Semantics Information day. TAGES attended both of the events for collaboration on the ICT area.
Another EC information day in the ICT theme will be held in ‘Cognitive Systems, Interaction and Robotics’ area on 10 January 2008, Luxembourg. Participating to the event will be a good opportunity for those who want to prepare a project in this area or who want to be partners in other project proposals.
