European Union declared 2009 as the European year of creativity and innovation and there are various events going on in Europe to promote innovation, collaboration and R&D. Research connection 2009 is one of these events organized by European Commission Directorate-General for Research Communication Unit in 7-8 May 2009, in Prague. TAGES CEO, Leyla Arsan participated in the event with a speech on managing finances and reporting in grant funded projects – Main issues and best practice.
Research connection 2009 was a major event on EU research programmes, hosted by the EU Czech Presidency for 2 days. The event brought European scientists, research managers, and industrialists together to increase collaboration, exchange of ideas and new partnerships and promote the environment for scientific development and excellence. The participants had the chance to get first hand information from those who have been involved in three major ongoing research initiatives:
The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7), 2007-2013
The Structural Funds, 2007-2013 and
The Competitiveness and Innovation Programme (CIP), 2007-2013
The event was opened with keynote speeches of Janez POTOČNIK, EU Commissioner for Science and Research, Ondřej LIŠKA, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Czech Republic and Jeremy RIFKIN, President, Foundation on Economic Trends.
TAGES has participated in the event and TAGES CEO, Leyla Arsan, made a presentation in the ‘Managing finances and reporting in grant funded projects’ session to identify and present main problems and to share best practice related to managing finances in grant funded projects, specifically in FP7 based on TAGES’S previous funding and project management experiences. Other speakers of the Session were Sasa KENNEY, Project Manager, RR & Co. KnowledgeCentre, Slovenia; Tone SPEILBERG BIRKENES, Business Developer, Coventure AS, Norway and Mateja RUDOLF.
The event presented various opportunities to participants with
- Plenary sessions with the main European political players
- Parallel sessions on EU research initiatives
- Hands-on sessions with FP7 participants, European organisations, etc.
- Presentations of successful projects to participants and to the press. Guidance on how to participate in EU research programmes (rules, tips, measures for small- and medium-sized enterprises, etc.)
- Forum sessions on how to maximise participation in EU research programmes organised on a ‘bottom-up’ basis by the participants themselves.
