Nowadays one of the first things that comes in minds when you discuss the necessities of a smart city is “Open Data”. Last month Smart Future Expo Summit and Fair was organized by TET (Turkish Electrical Electronics and Services Exporters Association) within the Project Bazaar 6 Event on Sep 6-7, 2017 and the importance of Open Data was addressed by Leyla Arsan, CEO of TAGES, during the panel namely “Transforming Data into Information and Managing Cities with Information” where she was one of the panellists.
The Panel, which was organized on the 2nd day of the event in the Istanbul Congress Center, was moderated by Tansel Kaya, Co-founder of Mindstone and the other panellists were Beril Kırcı Kandemir, Smart City Consultant of Proline, Ustun Murat Yildiz, IT Manager of Pendik Municipality, and Omer Citak, Technical Sales Manager of BI Technology.
During the panel, the panellists presented figures related to technologies and solutions on the way to be a smart city. Leyla Arsan mostly emphasized that to transform a city into a smart city, digital plans and open data are primary necessities. She pointed out that open data didn’t mean to share private data and most of the public authorities were confused with the meaning of open data as a public data and its difference from the private data. Also, she stated that Turkey lacks a lot of open data, the governmental policies should be changed accordingly. Üstün Murat Yıldız pointed out that the open data policies will be ready by 2019.
The panel was very effective for all participants by means of informative speeches of the panellists, discussions and increasing the awareness not only on big data and data analysis but especially on open data.
