On 17th May 2006, at Bosphorus University in Istanbul, the third workshop of EU 6th Framework Project EASIER in Turkey was organized by the Turkish Informatics Foundation (TBV) in cooperation with The Scientific & Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) and TAGES.
ICT Companies in Istanbul developed innovative research project ideas and learned how to convert it into a project proposal during the workshop. 32 persons from 28 SMEs attended the event. It was a one day programme, which started off with a presentation of the EASIER project, which seeks to ease the process of finding projects, preparing project proposals, and finding partners for SMEs in EU R&D Programmes as FP6 and FP7 Programmes. The programme continued with information sessions on EASIER Audit which aims to determine the current situation, problems and expectations of SMEs on participating to EU research programmes. After the EASIER Audit Session, the event continued with the training on the EU framework programmes, on the STREP project proposal preparation and writing, the information sessions on the Information & Communication Technologies (ICT) in FP7 and EASIER Project supports.
Along the training it also involved an application exercise in project proposal preparation, in which participating groups shared and developed their project ideas and presented. The Workshop ended with an evaluation, in which participants stated their interests in future activities and supports of the project.
For the registration to the event, participants registered in the EASIER database, in which the ICT SMEs of the participating 12 European countries will also be registered, fostering potential project cooperation with the assistance of EASIER’s regional consultants. Participants agreed to enter their project idea in the EASIER Project Database in order to find partners and to form their consortiums to develop R&D projects.
With the completion of three regional workshops in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir, a degree of awareness has created among Turkish ICT SMEs for their participation in EU R&D Projects. The Future event of the project will be an executive meeting for the CEOs of leading ICT Companies in June, in Istanbul. The biggest event of the EASIER Project in Turkey will be a brokerage event which will be realized in January 2007 by the participation of ICT companies from 20 countries in Europe, directors from European Commission and technology platform leaders, after the publishing of first calls of FP7 Programme, in Istanbul. Companies will have the opportunity to find partners for their project ideas and to join other R&D projects.
