Technology is developing in a high speed, and internet is becoming much more accessible. However, the speed and wideness of this technology bring together very crucial problems such as privacy of the people. Bilgi Cagi magazine is dealing with data and information security and privacy in its November edition. TAGES is one of the main contributors in Bilgi Cagi magazine which is published monthly with a vision to watch R&D and innovation processes of Turkey where the target mass is public organisations, NGOs, private sector, universities and all parties responsible for the R&D and innovation improvement of Turkey.
Board chairman of Association of Turkish Informatics Security, Faruk Kekevi, emphasizes the fact that internet is developed very fast but the law did not develop at the same speed and this leads to the structural and legal gaps which may hamper the ICT society. Leyla Arsan, TaGES CEO, proposes some solutions to sustain the privacy of the information society. Arsan proposes that it is important to create public awareness on the studies done for data security and privacy in order to form the information society and different civil society organizations should act together for this aim.
Moreover, cyber security is one of the main concerns of the State Planning Organization in its Information Society Strategy. The National Research Institute of Electronics and Cryptology (UEKAE) an affiliate of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, is responsible for the National Information Systems Security Programme which aims to provide information on the security of information systems to the public and private sector. Hayrettin Bahşi, researcher in UEKAE, takes attention to the fact that especially software developers do not have enough information on information security and they just concentrate on the functional needs during the determination of needs and not on information security needs and since the real needs cannot be determined in the beginning, they either cannot develop secure software or they spend more effort and time to develop the security in the later phases. Many of the ICT and law experts focus on the fact that personal rights are not protected under law.
