TAGES, as the Innovation Partner and Turkish Process Industry Association Representative in the H2020 FACTLOG project, is exploiting the FACTLOG analytics and optimisation software tools in circular manufacturing for a sustainable environment and also building the FACTLOG Ecosystem for the process industry in Turkey.
In this context, on April 5-6, 2023, TAGES organized 2 workshops in Istanbul for the textile and food process industries related to the EU Horizon 2020 FACTLOG project “Energy Efficient Factory Analytics Cognitive Digital Twin Solutions in the Process Industry”, with the cooperation and participation of the project coordinator Maggioli.
In the workshops, we explained to the participants an innovative digital transformation approach developed in the FACTLOG project and the “Cognitive Twin Platform”, an I4.0 tool, in practice. In addition, we informed the participants about the EU’s sustainability approaches, the European Green Deal, and sector-specific calls for the EU’s R&D and innovation funding programmes.
Digital Twins
In a short summary, the FACTLOG project is aiming at the implementation of technological solutions for Cognitive Digital Twins in the process industry, increasing the overall efficiency of industrial equipment, while reducing maintenance costs and saving energy. Digital twins are a virtual simulation of real-world objects. One of the main expectations of the use of digital twins is to provide the capability to observe and monitor the behavior of their respective physical twins.
Strengthening I4.0 Approaches with Cognitive AI in the Textile and Food Sector
On 5 April 2023, we organised the first workshop on the agenda of FACTLOG Innovative Digital Transformation Practices and Funding Opportunities for the food industry. Digital transformation experts and R&D teams from leading institutions in the sector participated in the workshop, which was hosted by TÜBİTAK Marmara Teknokent (MARTEK). The workshop started with an opening speech by Deniz Yayla, Deputy General Manager of MARTEK. He talked about the work being done at MARTEK, especially the importance of I4.0 and digital transformation applications.
On the 6th of April, with the same agenda for the textile sector, our second workshop was hosted by İHKİB Digital Transformation Centre (DDM). The workshop started with the opening speech by Emrah Özkorkmaz, Director of the Digital Transformation Centre, who explained the projects and activities in the field of digital transformation in the ready-to-wear sector at İHKİB DDM.
In both workshops, after the opening speeches, our projects consultant Aslıhan Kağnıcı informed the participants about the R&D and innovation services of TAGES, its role in the FACTLOG project, and the calls of the EU R&D and innovation-funding programme for the food and textile sectors.
Our CEO Leyla Arsan informed the participants about the European Union’s sustainability approaches, the European Green Deal, and the targets and strategies for the food and textile sectors within this framework.
TAGES board member Erdem Gülgener discussed with attendees the key business process challenges in the food and textile industries and how cognitive twins can help solve these challenges. Gülgener then presented application examples of how productivity can be increased by enhancing I4.0 approaches with cognitive artificial intelligence and the FACTLOG Cognitive Twin Platform, developed to reduce the total cost of ownership.
In the second part of the workshops, Kostas Kalaboukas, Innovation Management, and New Solutions Development Manager, and Chris Dimitropoulos, Technical Expert, from the FACTLOG Project Coordinator team at Maggioli Group, shared with participants the predictive analysis of energy efficiency in other pilot sectors using the FACTLOG platform.
The workshops ended with Erdem Gülgener’s presentation of the FACTLOG ecosystem (with business models where stakeholders from different levels can work together) and information.
