The European Framework Programmes: From Economic Recovery to Sustainability (R2S) Conference which brought together high-level stakeholders from different public private partnerships was organised under the auspices of the Spanish Presidency of the EU Council 2010 on 13-14 April 2010 in Valencia, Spain.
The conference was aimed to provide an open environment for discussions with prominent leaders from industry, researchers and the European Community, paving the way for future RTD and innovation programmes and actions targeting on adding value on main industrial sectors providing inputs for the European Competitiveness Council of Ministers.
The Conference became the key public event in a series of new Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) as cornerstone of the smart investments of the European Economic Recovery Plan:
- Factories of the Future (FoF)
- Energy Efficient Buildings (EeB)
- Green Cars (GCI)
- Future Internet (FI)
The event was the core of the ‘FP7: EUROPEAN INNOVATION AND RTD TRANSFORMING SECTORS’ WEEK’. The city of Valencia was the venue for the ‘FP7: INNOVATION AND RTD TRANSFORMING SECTORS` WEEK’, which held the Conference as its core event: April 13th was devoted to “Energy Efficient Building (EeB)” PPP and “Factories of the Future (FoF)” PPP and April 14th covered “Green Car (GC)” PPP and “Future Internet (FI) PPP”.
The conference, the forth of which was organized this year is important in terms of bringing together high-level stakeholders from different public private partnerships (PPPs) and giving an overview of the latest developments inthe smart investments of the European Economic Recovery Plan.
The afternoon of the 14th was dedicated to presentation of activities and prospects on Future Internet and living labs. Heikki Huomo, Director of CIE, Finnish Centre of Internet Excellence, made a presentation which was named National FI large scale test best in Finland. In his presentation on living labs in Oulu Region he stated that the city of Oulu and Oulu region with its developing infrastructure forms an excellent urban living lab- a system and an environment where real – life use – centric innovations. He determined the aim of establishment of OULLabs for further develop Oulu region to utilize the existing infrastructures and networks to test and develop utilization of user centric knowledge for better appliances and services for inhabitants.
The conference has also hosted representatives of Turkish research and innovation community. Leyla Arsan the CEO of TAGES, Haluk Gökmen fromEGESYS, Ebru Başak the National Contact Point of FP7 Research Infrastructures in Turkey, Murat Tekalp from ECOE Department of Koc University, Tanju Erdem Researcher in Momentum Technologies, Özgür Güngör R&D Manager of Bizitek, Ahmet Kondoz and Şafak Doğan from University of Surrey participated to R2S conference.

‘The technology targets for shaping The Europe of the future were pointed and the importance of R&D activities was emphasized in the conference. In this perspective, stating of investment technologies, discussing determining factors for Europe and requirements for innovation were produced. In terms of creation of new business relationships and conversion of these relationships to project opportunities, the conference was very useful.‘
