European Commission published a new call under the EUROMED programme which aims to promote Euro-Mediterranean partnership between the European Union and its southern regions. This new call of The EUROMED Heritage Programme aims to strengthen the mutual understanding and dialogue between cultures by promotion of the Mediterranean cultural heritage. You can prepare projects proposals that focus on the promotion of the Mediterranean cultural heritage or contribute to understanding of a common heritage in Mediterranean region. The deadline for project submission with a concept note is 15 February 2008.
Many Turkish institutions from NGOs to public sector presented successful projects which are funded under the previous calls of the EUROMED programme. The ongoing projects funded under the Programme have various topics from music to architecture in Mediterranean culture, from mosaics to castles, from Islamic art to the restoration of 19th century buildings, and from crafts to typical Mediterranean products.

This new call of the EUROMED Heritage Programme will provide a newer opportunity to preserve the Mediterranean culture while promoting synergies between cultures. You may prepare new projects with other European and Mediterranean partners.
The projects you may prepare may specifically focus on the following areas.
- Contribute awareness-rising in the Mediterranean partner countries, promote the access to knowledge of cultural heritage and encourage the effective management of the cultural heritage
- Encourage the social and economic repercussions at regional and local levels
- Provide technical assistance to Mediterranean authorities to improve the legislative and institutional framework
Promotion of cultural heritage includes different areas from tourism to the protection of the craftsmen in the Mediterranean region. Therefore, the projects may involve various types of activities such as strategic information, education and awareness raising campaigns on cultural heritage, educational activities and promotion of cultural productions, documentation of tangible and non-tangible cultural heritage, cultural tourism initiatives and management plans involving the public sector into the projects.
Since the projects need to focus on Mediterranean cultural heritage, the majority of project activities must take place in at least two of the Mediterranean partner countries and territories with project duration of 24-48 months. The funding for successful projects will be minimum 500.000 and maximum 1.500.000 €.
Applications will be made to the European Commission EuropeAid Co-operation Office in Brussels until 15 February 2008.
