A press meeting is organized on February 22nd, 2007 in Istanbul in order to present Machine Manufacturers Association’s (MIB) new EU project, namely ‘Development of Expertise on Acquis Communautaire in Turkish Machinery Sector’ project funded by Europa Bridges of Knowledge Programme. The project is coordinated by Leyla Arsan, the CEO of TAGES. The press meeting is realized with attendance of Fatih Bakan, the president of MIB; Mesut Gülcüler, General Director of Ministry of Industry and Commerce; Hakkı Karabörklü, Foreign Trade and Standardization Department Director of Under Secretariat of Foreign Trade; Talat Avcı, MIB Executive Court member; and Leyla Arsan, the project coordinator and the CEO of TAGES.
Development of Expertise on Acquis Communautaire in Turkish Machinery Sector’ project aims to provide a sustainable contribution to the adaptation of the EU directives relevant to the machinery sector. In this prospect, several activities will be organized during the project, such as need assessment surveys taken among the machine manufacturers, trainings on the EU directives relevant to machinery sector, best-practice visits to the Czech Republic, a conference in order to share and disseminate experiences.
The president of MIB, Fatih Bakan explained the importance of the project as; ‘MIB doesn’t only develop in Turkey, but also we present Turkey at international level. As being member of several sectorial associations and unions inEurope, such as CECIMO, MIB contributes to preparation of the EU directives on machinery. The harmonization of machines to the EU directives and standards is a question of sustainable quality’.
Mesut Gülcüler, General Director of Ministry of Industry and Commerce, mentioned that as the Ministry they are glad to host project activities. Gülcüler declared that the project carries a great importance, since it will orient the Ministry activities by trainings, e-library, and surveys that will be completed during the project. Hakkı Karabörklü, Foreign Trade and Standardization Department Director of Under Secretariat of Foreign Trade, insisted on the importance of harmonization to the EU directives in his speech. ‘MIB will gain expertise on the EU directives with this project. MIB will decrease the responsibility of the public sector, as it will share its expertise with machine manufacturers. We expect that with this project, MIB will make a step forward in order to become a Notified Body’.
