The Cluster Workshop on Enterprise Interoperability Research gathered different stakeholders in order to build consensus on the value and impact of EI, develop business solutions by focusing on the requirements of the SMEs and developments in the research and industry. Moreover, the workshop aimed at promoting collaboration among the Cluster projects to develop value proposition for EI solutions besides the research and technological development. The Cluster Meeting was organized by Man-Sze Li and Cristina Martinez. Man-Sze Li was also the leader of the team who prepared the EI Research Roadmap.
The lack of a business case for EI is one of the main problems as identified in the EI Research Roadmap prepared by the European Commission. The business models for new network applications lead to strengthening of the technology in Europe. During the workshop, participants dealt with the business models for EI with key issues and different approaches. During the workshop, Arsan made a presentation on the ‘Novel Approach for The Requirement of SMEs and the Evolving Developments in Research and in Industry SME’. She proposed a living lab of SMEs for EI with internet and network platforms and a global user-researcher-provider-disseminator working platform as well as continuous, dynamic and virtual approaches.
The relevant results from the Cluster projects, ATHENA Integrated project and INTEROP Network of Excellence, have been disseminated in the workshop. An informal study group on business models for EI will be convened and a short Cluster publication will be released by the end of this year.
